An Update From Our Chairman

Dear MAOS Members,

On behalf of the Committee, we hope you are enjoying the spring weather, some sun at last. We appreciate that things have been quiet on the society front, so I wanted to share an update on several important developments that have been going on in the background.

Work at Morley Town Hall is now well underway. I’ve been in regular contact with the Town Hall team, and current expectations are that the renovation works will take around 52 weeks. We estimate this will take us into 2027. We’ll continue to monitor progress and keep you updated as soon as we know more.

Behind the scenes, we are making steady progress towards transitioning MAOS into a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). This change is vital for securing our long‑term future, as it will allow us to claim Theatre Tax Relief, increasing production profits and supporting the society’s growth. A huge thank you goes to Sadie and Steve, who are working tirelessly to drive this forward.

As many of you know, the rehearsal room roof continues to leak, and the cost of replacing it remains extremely high. We thank all the members that have donated and previously participated in social events however without the income from full‑scale productions, the pot is still a bit short, so we are unable to complete these works at present.. The Committee is continuing to prioritise a programme of fundraisers and social events—to keep MAOS active, connected, and financially stable at this time.

This is where we need your help more than ever. Your participation—whether attending an event, bringing a friend along, donating a raffle prize, or simply spreading the word—makes a real and immediate difference. Every pound raised gets us closer to repairing the roof, keeping the society running, and ensuring we’re ready to return to the stage stronger than ever. If you can support even one event, you’ll be helping safeguard MAOS for the years ahead.

Now on to the good news, we are pleased to announce that we will be hosting our annual presidents evening on Saturday 4th July to celebrate our president, Julie Dorree, It’s been an unusual year for Julie without the normal performances so we will be making this an extra special night, with 2 fabulous producers who are very well known to the society. We will be posting details of the launch night shortly so please do come along and find out what it is all about and catch up with old friends.

Please rest assured that the Committee is fully committed to guiding the society through this challenging phase. As soon as circumstances allow, we’ll be doing everything possible to get everyone back performing again.

We are also in the process of planning our return to the new town hall in 2027, and marking the 100th anniversary of MAOS, we have a wonderful opportunity to make our comeback something truly special.

If you would like to hear more about our plans or just want to come and chat to the committee, we will shortly be confirming the date of our Annual General Meeting, and it would be fantastic to see as many of you as possible.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and dedication.

Warm regards,
Albert Roberts
Chairman
